How It Works

This tool sends an HTTP request to the specified URL and displays the response headers returned by the server. Headers are metadata sent alongside every HTTP response, providing instructions and information to the client.

What Are HTTP Headers?

HTTP headers are key-value pairs sent between the client (browser) and server with every request and response. Response headers convey information about the server, the returned content, and instructions for how the client should handle the response.

Common Header Categories
  • Security Headers: Strict-Transport-Security, Content-Security-Policy, X-Frame-Options, X-Content-Type-Options — protect against common web attacks
  • Caching Headers: Cache-Control, ETag, Expires, Last-Modified — control how content is cached by browsers and proxies
  • Content Headers: Content-Type, Content-Length, Content-Encoding — describe the response body
  • CORS Headers: Access-Control-Allow-Origin, Access-Control-Allow-Methods — control cross-origin resource sharing
  • Server Headers: Server, X-Powered-By, Via — reveal server software and infrastructure
Why Check HTTP Headers?
  • Security Auditing: Verify that security headers like HSTS and CSP are properly configured
  • Performance: Check caching headers to ensure content is efficiently cached
  • Debugging: Diagnose issues with content types, encoding, or CORS policies
  • Compliance: Ensure headers meet organizational or regulatory requirements
Note: Due to browser CORS restrictions, this tool uses a proxy service to fetch headers from external sites. The headers shown are the actual response headers from the target server.
